You can attend some training, from home, on your time; you can start and stop the training, as you have time.   The Introduction to Disaster Service is on the public web site, this is a starting point, and it will give you a short over view of the American Red Cross.

 IMPORTANT:  If you have a Pop-Up Blocker installed on your computer, you will need to disable it before you begin. 

 Step 1:  Self registration

         Cut and paste the following link into your web browser:
https://learningctr.redcross.org/elms/pws/portal.do?siteID=Response

         In the left column, click on “Self Register.”  Note:  Most volunteers will be new students.   

        On the registration page, enter the password you would like to use for LMS and the other information requested (name, address, etc.). Click “Submit.”

         Within a few minutes, you will receive an email from LMS that will include your Student ID and reconfirm the password that you have selected.  IMPORTANT:  please write down your Student ID and password.  You will need it to access LMS and take your courses. 

 Step 2:  Accessing the Catalog with your Student ID and password

         Access the LMS website:

         Click on “Login” from the left column.

         Enter your Student ID and password and click “Submit”

         In the left column, click on “Catalog”

         For type of class, click on “On-Line Only’

         In Course Category, scroll down and select “B1 – Disaster Courses”

         Click on “Search”

         The Disaster Course Catalog will come up.  You can click on any of the courses to see a brief description.   Note:  There is no charge for any disaster course.   

        To select a course, click on “Add to Cart.”  Your Shopping Cart will appear indicating the course has been added.  Be sure that the box “Add to Personal Development Plan” is checked.

         To add more courses, click on “Return to Catalog”

         When you have completed your selection of course, click on “Checkout”.  

         Review your order and click on “Place Order.”  A summary of your Course Order will appear.

 Step 3:  Taking your Disaster Course

         When you are ready to take a course that you have ordered, go to the LMS website:

         Logon using your Student ID and password and click on “Submit”

         Your Development Plan with the courses you ordered should appear.  If it does not, click on “Development Plan” in the left column.

         Click on “Begin/Continue Course”

         Remember that you can stop at any time while you are taking the course and resume where you left off.

        At the end of the course, you will be able to take the course exam.  When you have passed, you will have the option to print a “Certificate of Completion.”   Please print the certificate and send of copy to the Chapter Office.
